all about backroads grass musicians

Backroads Grass is comprised of five musicians: Derwin Hinson, Alene Hinson, Craig Fletcher, Jeff Burke, and Kevin Kessinger. Members of the band have roots in North Carolina, Illinois, and Canada but all now reside in the Nashville, Tennessee area. The talent in this band has a long lineage with a variety of well known stars at some iconic venues. Players have played for or with artists such as Bill Monroe, Charlie Louvin, Lorrie Morgan, Vern Gosdin, and Trace Adkins, and have played alongside numerous others in recording studios. Some band members have graced the stages of the Grand Ole Opry, Farm Aid, and Austin City Limits to name a few iconic venues. They're regulars at the Full Moon Pickin' Party, the bluegrass fundraiser for Friends of Warner Parks. 

The band members are: 

Derwin Hinson | Derwin is our banjo player sings a broad range of lead vocals and harmonies, an accomplished musician on anything with strings. He also records music at his home studio.

Craig Fletcher | Craig is our fiddle player and plays everything with strings, electric or acoustic: guitar, bass, dobro, steel, fiddle, mandolin, banjo. He also owns Craig's Recording Place. 

Jeff Burke | Jeff is an amazing mando player who is just as comfortable with a guitar or banjo. Jeff sings lead and harmony for Backroads Grass. 

Alene Hinson | Alene developed her sweet lead and harmony vocals growing up in church, plays upright bass, and creates the “bottom” for keeping it all together 

Kevin Kessinger | Kevin plays guitar, sings lead and some harmonies,  He also is a songwriter who has performed at writer's showcases In the Nashville area.

Backroads Grass can adapt for any event including their set list or number of musicians playing. The band has a broad repertoire of songs they play but our sample set list shows you some of our current favorites. We can include songs from multiple genre including Bluegrass, traditional Country, and Gospel. Our band also includes some talented songwriters, so we even mix in some original compositions.
